GDC, CHENANI CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL ENDANGERED SPECIES DAY & WORLD BIODIVERSITY DAY

Govt. Degree College, Chenani, under the auspices of its NSS unit “Prayatna” and its ‘Science Club’ celebrated the International Endangered Species Day on 21st May 2021 under the theme ‘Butterflies: The living Jewels. The College also celebrated the International Day for Biological Diversity on 22nd May 2021 under the theme “We’re part of the solution”. Both the programs were held to increase the understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues. ​Dr. U.C. Shrivastava, former Professor Emeritus from University of Allahabad was the resource person on the 2nd day who deliberated at length on the variety of life on Earth at all its levels, from genes to ecosystems, and explained the evolutionary, ecological, and cultural processes that sustain life. While Dr. Shakha Sharma, Asst. Prof. in Zoology at GGM Science College spoke on the day 1 about the significance of butterflies and their conservation issues. ​Dr. Pragya Khanna, Principal of the College remarked that while there is a growing recognition that biological diversity is a global asset of tremendous value to future generations, the number of species is being significantly reduced by certain human activities. She said that human race should be dedicated to making sure that Earth remains a place where all creatures, no matter what environment they depend on, can not only survive, but also thrive. The students of the College took part in both the events enthusiastically and enjoyed the great learning experience. The Programs were organized and moderated by Prof. Priyanka Bala and Prof. Nahila Sujad.
